Lucy Spowart is an Honorary Professor at the Peninsula Medical School (Faculty of Health) at the University of Plymouth. Her expertise spans curriculum development, inclusive teaching practices, and healthcare workforce professionalization. She holds a PhD from the University of Otago, New Zealand, and has held roles at institutions including Edith Cowan University and the University of St. Mark & St. John. Her research focuses on teaching recognition frameworks, professional development in higher education, and global health engagement's impact on NHS professionals.
Lucy pioneered Plymouth’s Teaching Development Framework and advises on institutional teaching recognition schemes. She is a member of Advance HE’s Expert Advisory Group for Fellowships and Co-Chairs the University’s Women’s Network. Awards include a 2020 National Teaching Fellowship and 2018 Principal Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. Her work bridges academic development and clinical education, emphasizing marginalized groups’ inclusion.
Research interests include motherhood and sport participation, reflected in collaborative autoethnographies exploring maternal identities. She has advised on NHS workforce training, including central venous access device programs and global health skills transfer. Lucy actively mentors early-career academics and supports doctoral students researching healthcare education.
