Dr. Lucy Kanya is a Lecturer in Health Economics and Policy at the London School of Economics (LSE), affiliated with the Health Economics Research Group (HERG) at Brunel University. Her work focuses on healthcare financing, maternal and child health, and the role of stated preference techniques in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). She has conducted extensive research in Sub-Saharan Africa, including evaluations of health financing programs in Kenya and Uganda, and operational research on maternal and neonatal health, HIV/AIDS, and malaria.
Currently, she contributes to the African Health Observatory-Platform on Health Systems and Policies (AHOP), a WHO AFRO initiative collaborating with national research centers in Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, and Senegal. Her teaching includes courses on Financing Health Care, Economic Evaluation in Health Care, and Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.
Key research interests include private sector engagement in healthcare, cost-effectiveness analyses, and voucher programs for reproductive health services. Her work emphasizes practical policy solutions for improving health system resilience and equity in LMICs.
Notable contributions include studies on community health worker roles during the Rwanda COVID-19 response, optimization of primary healthcare workforces for NCD management in Kenya, and systematic reviews on health utilities for children with disabilities.
