Dr Lucy Commander is an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at the University of Western Australia’s School of Agriculture and Environment. She specializes in restoration seed ecology, focusing on applied research and coordinating teams to develop best practice guidelines for seed collection and use. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to environmental conservation.
Current projects include the National Environmental Science Program Resilient Landscapes Hub. Previously, she held a post-doctoral position at Kings Park Science, Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions. She holds a PhD and BSc (Hons) in relevant fields.
Her research interests center on restoration ecology, seed biology, conservation strategies, and threatened species recovery. Key areas include seed germination niches, plant community restoration, and post-mining ecological rehabilitation. She has co-authored influential guidelines like the Florabank Standards and contributed to international conferences.
Dr Commander’s work emphasizes practical solutions for biodiversity conservation, integrating ecological principles with policy frameworks. Notable contributions include advancing knowledge on soil cover design in arid zones and promoting seed longevity strategies for landscape-scale restoration.
