Emma Dalziell is a Research Fellow at the School of Biological Sciences, The University of Western Australia (UWA), and an adjunct Research Scientist at Kings Park Science (Western Australian Botanic Gardens). Her work focuses on applying seed science to ex situ conservation and restoration of Australian native plants. She holds a PhD in seed biology (UWA, 2016) and prior degrees in conservation biology (BSc Hons, UWA, 2010; BSc, UWA, 2009). Her research addresses seed storage protocols, thermal tolerance thresholds, and biobanking strategies for endangered species. She is actively supervising Higher Degree by Research students and contributes to global conservation efforts aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Research Interests: Seed biology, ex situ conservation, plant conservation, ecosystem restoration, phylogenetic approaches to seed traits, and climate change impacts on arid zone flora.
Key Outputs: Recent work includes defining pyro-thermal niches for seeds, strategies for Myrtle Rust biosecurity, and metabolic rate analysis across angiosperms. Over 20 peer-reviewed articles (23 total) address seed storage, germplasm management, and biodiversity preservation.
External Roles: Adjunct Research Scientist at Kings Park Science, collaborating on national plant conservation initiatives.
