Lucy Clout

Lucy Clout is a Lecturer in the Department of Fine Art at Goldsmiths, University of London. Her practice bridges video art, diaristic filmmaking, and mixed-media installations, interrogating themes of minor-speech, queer and feminist critiques, contemporary embodiment, and the intersections of technology with intimacy and fatigue.

Clout's research interests include Video Art, Queer Studies, Feminist Theory, and Digital Media, with a focus on nocturnal aesthetics, material culture, and gendered labor. Her work builds on histories of diaristic and feminist filmmaking, emphasizing the tactile and temporal disorientations of contemporary screen-based life.

Recent artistic outputs include solo exhibitions such as Pipe Dreams (2023) and ZZZ (2020), alongside collaborative screenings and retrospectives. Her articles reflect trends in

• queer and feminist subversion of normative social constructs
• nocturnal thinking as a counterpoint to capitalist productivity
• material experimentation with ceramics, lightboxes, and fluids
• critique of digital media through affective and embodied lenses

Clout was awarded the Jerwood/Film and Video Umbrella award in 2015 and has held residencies such as Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival (2018).

Her practice integrates teaching at Goldsmiths, where she explores the relationships between artistic labor, screen culture, and queer fatigue. Clout's installations, such as Night-Vision Disco Break-Room, dismantle boundaries between domestic, studio, and exhibition spaces.
