Adham Faramawy is a Senior Lecturer in Fine Art Studio Practice at the Department of Art, Goldsmiths, University of London. Their work spans video, performance, sculpture, and print, interrogating themes of queer ecologies, colonial history, and environmental change.
- Education: Postgraduate Diploma in Fine Art (Royal Academy Schools, 2013); BA Fine Art (Slade School, 2004)
Faramawy’s research explores the intersection of queer politics and ecologies, focusing on waterways as sites of extraction and memory. Their projects, such as Daughters of the River and And these deceitful waters, weave personal history with colonial narratives and ecological collapse.
Recent publications include Queer Ecoologies (2022) and Encounters over Several Plants (2022), examining plant-human relationships and decolonizing environmental discourse. They received the Frieze Artist Award 2023 for a sculptural-video installation addressing migration anxieties.
Faramawy’s practice integrates performance, film, and spoken word to critique monuments, hospitality, and extractive capitalism. Key exhibitions include The air is subtle, various and sweet (Niru Ratnam Gallery, 2021) and In the simmering air... (Chapter Gallery, 2024).
