Lucy Cathcart Frödén is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Musicology (IMV), Faculty of Humanities, University of Oslo. Originally from Scotland with professional experience across London, Stockholm, and Malmö, she conducts interdisciplinary research at the intersection of sound studies, community development, and social justice.
Her research focuses on creative collaboration, particularly how shared sonic creativity fosters solidarity and mutual care in marginalized communities. She examines in-between spaces between people, languages, cultures, and academic disciplines, exploring how these can become common ground through artistic practice. Her work emphasizes radical openness in collaborative processes, with special attention to prison contexts, migration experiences, and multilingual urban environments.
Her recent publications reveal a strong focus on participatory arts approaches to social change, examining how sound and music can bridge social divides and imagine alternatives to incarceration. Her work demonstrates interdisciplinary connections between sound studies, criminology, migration studies, and community development.
