Dr. Edward Beggan is a full-time Lecturer in Community Development (People, Place & Social Change) at the University of Glasgow. His practice focuses on empowerment through youth engagement across diverse settings including youth clubs, schools, hospitals, and prisons. He is registered with the CLD Standards Council for Scotland and serves on the Scottish Youth Work Steering Group.
Education:
- Bachelor of Arts (1st class Hons) in Community Education, University of Strathclyde
- Masters from Glasgow School of Art (research focus: prison sound environments)
- PhD from University of the West of Scotland (2019): explored young people’s perspectives on learning through Creative Arts Youth Work
Research interests include creative arts methodologies in youth work, the interplay between formal/informal education, and the impact of environmental factors (e.g., prison acoustics) on marginalized populations. Current work examines how young people learn across different educational contexts.
Labs/Teams: Engaged with interdisciplinary teams studying community development practices and youth engagement strategies.
