Lucy Bryning is a Part-Time Lecturer in Health Sciences (Post-Graduate Taught) at Cardiff University's School of Health Sciences, with additional roles as Research and Development Innovation Officer in Health and Wellbeing at the College of Medicine and Health. She holds a BSc 1st Class (Hons) and Masters by Research in Psychology, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Health Economics focusing on the economics of Mindfulness-Based Interventions.
Her research portfolio centers on:
- Economic evaluation of complex public health programs
- Psychosocial interventions and their cost-effectiveness
- Illness/disorder prevention initiatives across the life course
- New technologies for health improvement
- Well-being economics in various life stages
Dr. Bryning has made significant contributions through co-authoring the CHEME reports commissioned by Public Health Wales, including 'Transforming Young Lives across Wales' (2016), 'Living Well for Longer' (2018), and 'Well-being at Work' (2019). Her recent work (2024) appears in high-impact publications including PLoS ONE and an Oxford University Press volume on health economics of well-being across the life course.
Her research strongly aligns with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly demonstrating how economic arguments support investments in well-being, mindfulness, and health improvement across different population segments and life stages. Her fingerprint reveals strong expertise in Wales-specific health economics, well-being measurement, economic evaluation methodologies, and applications to populations including those with intellectual disabilities.
