Lucrezia Ercoli is a tenured Professor of History of Entertainment at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, where she teaches Philosophy of Art, Aesthetics, and specialized courses across Scenography, Sculpture, and Art Education programs. Previously affiliated with Academies of L'Aquila, Reggio Calabria, and Macerata, she collaborates with Musical Aesthetics and Moral Philosophy chairs at Roma Tre University.
Her research centers on Popsophia—a fusion of pop culture analysis and philosophical inquiry—with expertise spanning nostalgia theory, opera heroines, spectacle of evil, and influencer philosophy. She examines how entertainment shapes contemporary imagination through interdisciplinary lenses connecting theater, cinema, literature, and digital media. Her methodology integrates textual analysis with live performances and audiovisual material to explore cultural phenomena from ancient myths to modern serial dramas.
Ercoli's publications reveal evolving focus from classical philosophical concepts to urgent contemporary issues: her 2024 work The Spectacle of Evil analyzes violence representation across media, while Yesterday. Philosophy of Nostalgia (2022) investigates temporal perception in digital culture. Earlier works like Philosophy of Humor (2013) establish foundations for her signature approach blending academic rigor with accessible pop criticism.
- Frascati Philosophy Award (2011) for Philosophe Malgrè Soi
- Marchigiana dell'anno prize by Centro Studi Marche (2014)
As artistic director of the international Popsophia festival since 2011, she bridges academia and public discourse through regular contributions to Il Riformista, television appearances on Rai5/Rai3's Terza Pagina, and conception of musical shows presented at major cultural festivals. Her educational outreach extends to professional training courses for teachers and cultural operators across Italy.
