Lucie Parent is a Full Professor at the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Montreal. She serves as Deputy Vice-Rector for Research, Discovery, Creation and Innovation, and is a regular researcher at the Montreal Heart Institute Research Center. Her work focuses on molecular mechanisms of voltage-gated calcium channels in cardiac and renal physiology, particularly mechanisms of selectivity, inactivation, and pharmacological response.
- Education: B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Chemistry/Biophysics (University of Sherbrooke), Ph.D. in Physiology (University of Montreal)
- Leadership: Directed the Quebec Membrane Protein Study Group (2004-2010), chaired UdeM's Research Ethics Committee
Research interests center on structural biology of calcium channels, with specific emphasis on:
- Molecular determinants of CaV1.2 and SK4 channel function
- Role of calmodulin in ion channel modulation
- Post-translational modifications in cardiac disease
- Calcium signaling in ventricular arrhythmias
Recent publications analyze calmodulin interactions with calcium channels (2022), novel CACNA1C variants in Timothy Syndrome (2020), and structural modulation of Cav1.2 channels (2018). Her work has been funded by CIHR, NSERC, Heart and Stroke Foundation, and FRQS.
Scientific distinctions include:
- 1996 NIH FIRST Award
- 1997 Jonathan Ballon Prize
- 2013 Graduate Teaching Excellence Award
- 2015 Jean Coutu Prize
Dr. Parent actively supervises graduate students and participates in strategic research planning initiatives. She serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Biological Chemistry and contributes to institutional research policy development.
