André DENAULT

André Denault is a Full Professor of Anesthesiology and Pharmacology at Université de Montréal’s Faculty of Medicine. He holds dual appointments in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine and the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology. As an anesthesiologist and intensivist, he practices at the Montreal Heart Institute (MHI) and the University of Montreal Hospital Center. His research focuses on hemodynamic instability, targeted ultrasound in critical care, and right ventricular function in cardiac surgery patients. Denault co-directs the University’s Targeted Ultrasound Fellowship Program and has authored numerous books and over 350 scientific articles.

• PhD in Biomedical Sciences (2010)
• Training in Pittsburgh, PA, USA, in critical care and transesophageal echocardiography.

Research Interests: His work emphasizes non-invasive monitoring techniques, including transesophageal echocardiography and cerebral oximetry. Key areas include right ventricular dysfunction, postoperative delirium prediction, and pulmonary hypertension management. He pioneered the use of transesophageal echocardiography at the MHI, performing over 25,000 exams since 1999.

Grants & Projects: Denault leads and collaborates on major initiatives, including studies on fluid management in AKI patients (IRSC-funded), cerebral monitoring in cardiac surgery (Fondation de l’ICM), and ultrasound innovations (CRSNG grants). He also chairs the University of Montreal Cardiac Surgery Clinical Investigation Group.
