Lucie Laurian is a Professor in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at the School of Architecture and Planning, University at Buffalo. An international expert in environmental justice and planning theory, she served as department chair from 2023 to 2025. Previously, she was a professor and director at the School of Planning and Public Affairs, University of Iowa, for nearly two decades.

Her research spans environmental planning, public participation in toxic site cleanups, sustainability plan outcomes, urban forestry, and the role of trust and temporal frameworks in planning. Funded by the National Science Foundation, HUD, and New Zealand Foundation for Science, her work bridges U.S. and French contexts.
