Luciana Lang is a Researcher at the Manchester Institute for Collaborative Research on Ageing (MICRA) within the University of Manchester. Her work focuses on urban anthropology, age-friendly cities, and the role of faith-based organizations in supporting aging populations. She holds a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Manchester, supervised by Dr. Susan Wade and Dr. Peter Harvey, exploring urban-fishery communities and environmental ethics in Rio de Janeiro.
Her research interests include natural/cultural heritage preservation, community use of shared spaces, and intergenerational knowledge transfer. Notable projects include studying faith organizations' pandemic-era support for older people in Greater Manchester and advocating for policy partnerships between public agencies and faith groups.
Lang has received prestigious awards including the 2022 Making a Difference Award and 2024 Research Staff Excellence Award. She co-leads the Manchester Urban Ageing Research Group (MUARG), focusing on urban aging challenges and policy innovation.
Her recent publications analyze pandemic impacts on older populations, faith-based social infrastructure, and generational mobilities during crises. She actively engages in community initiatives like the Cheetham Park Community Day and contributes to policy debates on aging through media platforms.
