Christopher Phillipson is an Emeritus Professor in Sociology at The University of Manchester, where he co-directed the Manchester Institute for Collaborative Research on Ageing (MICRA). Previously, he held leadership roles at Keele University, including Pro-Vice Chancellor and founding director of the Centre for Social Gerontology. His research focuses on the social, political, and economic dimensions of ageing, particularly urban ageing, social exclusion, and globalisation's impact on later life. Phillipson has authored over 250 publications and led major projects funded by the ESRC, MRC, and EU, including the Manchester Urban Ageing Research Group (MUARG). He has received 35 awards, including Fellowships from leading gerontological societies.
