Lucia Corno is an Associate Professor at the Department of Economics and Finance, Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan, and Executive Director of the Laboratory for Effective Anti-Poverty Policies (LEAP) at Bocconi University. She holds a PhD in Economics from Bocconi University (2009) and has held academic positions at University College London and Queen Mary University. Her research focuses on development economics, particularly harmful traditions like female genital cutting and child marriage, HIV/AIDS, and social norms. She has received prestigious grants including the ERC Starting Grant (2019-2025) and FIS Consolidator Grant (2025-2028). She collaborates with organizations like the World Bank and J-PAL on randomized control trials. Key awards include a CEPR fellowship and leadership roles in networks like EUDN and the European Economic Association. Advising includes PhD student Jack Melbourne. LEAP focuses on evidence-based anti-poverty policies in developing countries and Italy.
Research interests include gender empowerment, poverty reduction, and policy evaluation. Recent work examines peer influence on educational choices and the role of social norms in perpetuating harmful traditions. Her articles analyze topics like child marriage as informal insurance and the impact of weather shocks on marriage practices. She has also published on homelessness, crime, and HIV prevention strategies.
