Lucas Kello is Associate Professor of International Relations at the University of Oxford's Department of Politics and International Relations, where he directs the Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research (ACE-CSR). This university-wide initiative is sponsored by the UK National Cyber Security Centre and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.
His research examines technology's impact on global affairs, focusing on:
- Cybersecurity strategy and cyber conflict resolution
- Artificial intelligence governance and geopolitical implications
- Space security and orbital governance frameworks
- Public-private sector collaboration in disruptive technologies
Kello's publications demonstrate sustained focus on cyber conflict theory, space governance, and democratic resilience against digital threats. His 2022 book Striking Back was named among the year's best by the Financial Times and Nature.
He advises eight doctoral and master's students including Haydn Belfield and Aaron Xavier Jerome. As Director of ACE-CSR, he leads interdisciplinary cybersecurity research initiatives across Oxford University.
