Lucas Gomez Tobon is an Adjunct Professor at Universidad de los Andes, teaching machine learning and game theory. He serves as Deputy Director of the Data Mining Department at Quantil. Holding a Master’s in Economics from Universidad de los Andes, his research focuses on applied machine learning for social good, including crime modeling and music-driven statistical analysis.
His notable works include predicting Colombian music charts using CNNs (69% recall) and linking musical trends to economic indicators (82% variability explanation in Consumer Confidence Index). Recent projects include a REDNACECYT-MD4SG Summer of Science intervention in a Mexican indigenous community and developing the tidyX NLP preprocessing package.
His 2023 CLATSE presentation on underreported crime modeling received media attention via Caracol Radio. Research spans spatio-temporal crime patterns, econometric applications of music data, and social impact technologies.
