Roberto Guglielmi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Mathematics at the University of Waterloo. He holds a PhD from University Tor Vergata of Rome and University of Lorraine, and has held postdoctoral positions at institutions in Brazil, Italy, Austria, UK and Germany. His research focuses on control and optimization of complex dynamical systems described by differential equations, with applications in sustainability, health, and energy.
Research interests include:
- Model Predictive Control for PDEs
- Feedback stabilization of hyperbolic systems
- Turnpike phenomena in optimal control
- Applications to environmental monitoring and precision agriculture
His publications demonstrate strong focus on optimization theory, control systems, and applied mathematics, with recent work expanding into environmental applications and pandemic modeling. Articles frequently explore turnpike phenomena and dissipativity in various control contexts.
Professor Guglielmi actively contributes to professional communities as a member of IFAC's Distributed Parameter Systems committee and sits on advisory boards for multiple Waterloo research institutes including Cybersecurity and Privacy Institute, Water Institute, and Climate Institute.
