Lucas Chancel

Lucas Chancel is an Associate Professor (with tenure) at Sciences Po and Co-Director of the World Inequality Lab at the Paris School of Economics. He maintains multiple significant affiliations including positions as Associate Researcher at PSE and the Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations, Senior Advisor at the European Tax Observatory, and Visiting Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School.

His research focuses on the critical intersection of economic inequality and environmental sustainability, with particular expertise in measuring income and wealth inequalities and designing policies that address both social and ecological challenges. Chancel's work has gained international recognition, appearing in prestigious outlets including Science, Nature, The Guardian, New York Times, Le Monde, Der Spiegel, and El Pais.

Chancel's academic background combines rigorous economic training with environmental expertise, having earned a PhD in Economics from EHESS, a Masters in Economics and Public Policy from Sciences Po, Ecole Polytechnique and ENSAE, and a Master of Science in Sustainable Energy from Imperial College London. His multidisciplinary training enables him to approach complex policy challenges with both economic rigor and environmental awareness.

As Co-Director of the World Inequality Lab, Chancel leads cutting-edge research on global inequality patterns and their relationship to environmental sustainability. His work informs policy debates on taxation, social protection, and ecological transition across multiple international institutions and governments.
