Dr. Luca Malici is an Assistant Professor (Education) in Italian Studies at Durham University’s School of Modern Languages and Cultures. He serves as Co-Director of Italian Studies and Italian Year Abroad Officer. His research focuses on Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), Queer Studies, and technology-enhanced language teaching. He coordinates Italian language modules and contributes to university-wide IT standards.
- Education: BA in Languages and Information Technology (University of Rome), Joint MA in Italian Studies (University of Birmingham and Warwick).
Research interests include queer language pedagogy, media representation of LGBTQ+ communities, and inclusive education. Current projects explore generative AI in language learning and queer-inclusive syllabi design. He has presented at conferences like the Society of Italian Studies and contributed to volumes such as The Art of Teaching Italian.

Teaching roles include coordinating translation modules and leading workshops on inclusive practices. Collaborations include AHRC-funded projects on interdisciplinary Italian studies and multi-touch table technology in language education.
