Dr Anna Llewellyn is an Assistant Professor in the School of Education at Durham University and a Fellow of the Wolfson Research Institute for Health and Wellbeing. Her work intersects educational sociology, cultural studies, and critical policy analysis with a focus on equity, diversity, and inclusion. She currently serves as Director of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) for her school, while teaching modules such as Constructing Childhood and Youth and supervising numerous MA and doctoral students.
Her research examines LGBTQ+ inclusion in educational settings, including LGBTQ+ teachers’ experiences in schools and university student support systems. Notable publications include Manufacturing the Mathematical Child (2018), which critiques neoliberal influences in mathematics education, and peer-reviewed articles on queer pedagogy, digital identity, and heteronormativity.
Dr Llewellyn has received the Excellence in Teaching and Learning Award (2018) and holds Senior Fellow status from the Higher Education Academy. She contributes to academic leadership through editorial roles (European Journal of Education) and peer reviewing for over 20 journals spanning education, gender studies, and mathematics pedagogy.
Her funded research includes UKRI/ESRC grants exploring LGBTQ+ teacher narratives and university student support mechanisms. She collaborates with interdisciplinary teams on projects addressing social justice in education, including a forthcoming British Academy-funded study on LGBTQ+ university inclusion strategies.
