Luc Kleiner serves as a Lecturer in Music at Pomona College and has been a member of the Los Angeles Master Chorale since 2014. An active vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and educator, Kleiner engages with diverse media, styles, and traditions across his artistic career.
His educational background includes:
- Master of Fine Arts in Performance and Composition from California Institute of the Arts
- Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from California State University Long Beach
Kleiner's research centers on vocal performance techniques, avant-pop composition, and the arrangement of traditional shape-note tunes in art-song style. He explores transformations and resonances within spiritual narratives through music, with particular focus on contradictions and historical through-lines. His creative work extends significantly into film and television, featuring vocals for major productions including Star Wars films, Disney's Jungle Cruise, and The Weeknd's 2021 Super Bowl Halftime show.
Notable performances include Peter Sellars' Lagrime di San Pietro at the Salzburg Festival (2019), Ellen Reid's Dreams of the New World world-premiere (2018), and Nico Muhly's The Faire Starre West Coast premiere (2019). Kleiner maintains active collaborations with ensembles including Street Symphony, Tonality, Synchromy, and Musica Transalpina.
