Luana S. F. Lins

Dr. Luana S. F. Lins is a Research Scientist at CSIRO's Catalysing Australia’s Biosecurity Initiative, leading genomic research on thermal tolerance in aquaculture species to enhance industry resilience. Previously within CSIRO's Environomics FSP, she developed rapid molecular species identification platforms enabling real-time analysis within 20 minutes of sequencing initiation.

Her academic foundation includes:

• BSc in Biology from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (2008)
• MSc in Zoology from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (2010)
• PhD in Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution from The University of Sydney (2015)

Her research integrates genomics, evolutionary biology, and environmental DNA (eDNA) to address biosecurity challenges, with specialized focus on thermal resilience mechanisms in salmonids, polar adaptation genomics, and evolutionary rate determinants. She pioneers simplified eDNA workflows to democratize biosecurity applications while advancing fundamental understanding of genomic adaptation across environments.

Dr. Lins leads CSIRO initiatives in aquatic pest genomics, developing field-deployable identification tools that bridge molecular research with practical biosecurity implementation. Her work directly supports sustainable aquaculture development through genomic insights into species resilience and environmental adaptation.
