Lu Fan, Ph.D., CFP® is an Associate Professor at the University of Georgia, affiliated with the College of Family and Consumer Sciences in the Financial Planning, Housing and Consumer Economics department. Previously, he served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Missouri (2017-2021). His research focuses on financial advice-seeking behavior, consumer well-being, financial education, literacy, and behavioral finance.

Lu Fan's research spans multiple subfields, including financial decision-making, mobile fintech, generational financial disparities, cognitive abilities in investing, and the psychological impacts of financial stress. His recent work examines financial well-being across life stages, the role of financial education in mobile fintech adoption, and the intersection of financial worries with mental health outcomes.
He has received numerous accolades, including the Early Career Faculty Research Award (2023), multiple Outstanding Symposium Research Paper Awards (2022, 2019), the Emerging Scholar Award (2022), and the Hazel M. Hatcher HES Teaching Scholar Award (2021). His editorial roles include Associate Editor for Financial Planning Review and Financial Services Review since 2023.
Lu Fan actively contributes to professional service as Board of Directors Chair for the American Council on Consumer Interest (2022-present) and through editorial board memberships for journals like Journal of Financial Planning and Counseling. He advises doctoral and master’s students and mentors undergraduate research initiatives like P.U.R.E. and Edward Jones Portfolio Challenge.
