Loïc Azoulai

Loïc Azoulai is a Full-time Professor and Director of Graduate Studies at the Department of Law, European University Institute (EUI). He holds the Chair in Law and Social Europe, focusing on the interaction between European law and societal challenges. Previously, he served at Sciences Po Law School (2015–2024) and Panthéon-Assas University (2006–2015). His work addresses migration, security, ecological crises, digital transitions, and societal polarization.

• Education: PhD in Law from EUI (2000), trained at Nice University.
• Career: Legal Secretary at the European Court of Justice (2003–2006), collaborating with Advocate General Maduro.

Research interests include EU legal studies' societal relevance, forms of life, and critical reflections on European integration. Current projects explore 'European society' with Armin von Bogdandy and climate governance. He advises multiple PhD students and co-leads the Environmental challenges and climate change governance cluster. Notable publications include analyses on EU jurisprudence, migration law, and existential dimensions of legal frameworks.
