Dr. Louise Todd is an Associate Professor at Edinburgh Napier University's Business School, where she leads the Tourism and Intercultural Business Communications Subject Group. She holds leadership positions including Public Engagement Lead for the Business School and Deputy Lead of the Tourism Research Centre.
Her interdisciplinary research focuses on arts and cultural tourism, festival studies, and community engagement through visual and participatory methodologies. She examines how festivals and tourism can foster community connections and address social justice issues through placemaking strategies.
Recent publications investigate gender dynamics in festival workplaces, children's tourism perspectives, and feminist approaches to event research. Her work consistently applies creative methodologies to understand stakeholder experiences in cultural tourism contexts.
Honors include Fellowships from the Royal Anthropological Institute (FRAI), Royal Society of Arts (FRSA), and Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
She mentors 4 PhD students and has supervised 12 postgraduate researchers to completion. Funded projects include a Royal Society of Edinburgh grant on tourism recovery and a UKRI project on community placemaking.
She leads the Visual Methods and Ethnography Research Group and serves on the board of Edinburgh Printmakers. Her visual art practice informs both research and teaching in tourism visual culture.
