David Jarman

Dr. David Jarman (SFHEA, FRSA) serves as a Lecturer at the Business School, Edinburg Napier University since 2007. As Programme Leader for BA (Hons) International Festival & Event Management, he combines academic leadership with empirical research on festival networks, recently completing his PhD at Tilburg University titled "Social network analysis and festival relationships: personal, organisational and strategic connections" (2022). Currently Deputy School Academic Lead for Quality Enhancement, he applies social network analysis to investigate festival community dynamics.

His research spans festival economics, network theory, and transformative place-making, with publications in Event Management, Journal of Place Management and Development, and books by Routledge and Palgrave Macmillan. Current projects include:

• "Community, organisational, and technological transitions: Mapping Edinburgh as festival city" (2023-present)
• "Wildlife Tourism Marketing and Sustainable Futures" (2025-)

As educator, he supervises Live Projects and Work Based Learning students while co-teaching MSc modules with Prof. Jane Ali-Knight. His network-centric approach has produced 13+ research outputs, with recent work applying critical realism to explore festival community structures.
