Professor Louise Baur is a leading academic and clinical researcher at the University of Sydney, holding the Douglas Burrows Chair of Paediatrics and serving as Professor of Child & Adolescent Health. She is a Consultant Paediatrician at The Children's Hospital at Westmead and NHMRC Leadership Fellow (Level 3). Baur directs the Boden Initiative within the Charles Perkins Centre and the NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Early Prevention of Obesity in Childhood-Translate (EPOCH-Translate).
- Research Focus: Childhood and adolescent obesity, public health interventions, metabolic syndrome, and health service delivery for obesity management.
- Leadership Roles: President of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences (2023-2026), Past-President of the World Obesity Federation (2022-2024), and former WHO Working Group member.
Scientific Awards include the 2021 NHMRC Elizabeth Blackburn Investigator Grant, 2020 Howard Williams Medal, and Member of the Order of Australia (AM, 2010). She has supervised numerous PhD students in obesity and nutrition research and authored over 200 publications. Her work spans clinical trials like the Fast Track Trial, population studies, and policy development with global health organizations.
