Louis Levasseur is a Full Professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning Studies at the Faculty of Education (FSÉ) of Université Laval in Quebec City. He is also an active researcher at the Interuniversity Research Centre on Teacher Training and the Teaching Profession (CRIFPE). His academic career spans several decades with a consistent focus on the sociology of education and educational policy analysis within the Quebec context.
Professor LeVasseur earned his Doctorate in Sociology from the University of Montreal in 1997, with research examining traditional and modern knowledge in college-level philosophical teaching in Quebec. His scholarly trajectory demonstrates deep engagement with the structural and organizational dimensions of educational systems, particularly how educational labor is divided and how policies reshape school culture.
His research primarily investigates the division of educational labor, school culture, and education policies including decentralization, school markets, and new public action models. His work documents how these forces transform the work of teachers and school professionals such as psychologists, neuropsychologists, learning specialists, guidance counselors, and psychoeducators in Quebec schools. He also examines foundational educational concepts including school justice, equality, criticism, and the historical evolution of educational reforms in Quebec.
Professor LeVasseur's publication record shows sustained scholarly productivity with over 30 peer-reviewed articles since 2010, multiple influential books, and numerous book chapters. His recent work focuses on educational inclusion challenges, tensions between market and democratic values in schools, institutional fragmentation, and student diversity management. His scholarship consistently bridges theoretical analysis with practical educational concerns, making it relevant to both academic researchers and educational practitioners.

His work receives consistent funding from Canadian research agencies, demonstrating its significance to educational scholarship. Through CRIFPE and other collaborative networks, he maintains extensive research partnerships across Quebec, Canada, and internationally, particularly with Swiss, French, and Brazilian researchers.
His research has direct implications for understanding contemporary challenges in Quebec's educational system, particularly regarding the integration of diverse student populations, the evolving nature of teacher work, and the balance between market-oriented and democratic approaches to schooling.
