Louis Alderson-Bythell is an Associate Lecturer in Fashion within the School of Design at the Royal College of Art (RCA), a position he has held since 2018. He is actively involved in academic research as part of the AiDesign Lab. His research focuses on ecological storytelling, bio-sciences, regenerative creativity, and intangible cultural heritage, exploring intersections with human and machine creativity, craftsmanship, and environmental observation through deep time. His artistic practice involves collaborations with scientists in fields such as Insect Behavioural Ecology, Lichenology, and Artificial Intelligence.
Louis has exhibited internationally, with works featured at institutions like Kunsthal Charlottenborg Copenhagen, The Vigeland Museum Oslo, and Art Week Rotterdam. He has created public sculptures in Denmark and Switzerland in collaboration with the Natural History Museum. Previously, he co-founded the pollination ecology company Olombria and the artistic collective Material-Think-Space.
Currently, he leads the Neo Couture project, funded by InnoHK, which integrates computational creativity and AI-driven tools to preserve and enhance traditional haute couture craftsmanship. This initiative aims to maintain the 'humanness' and tactile nature of hand embroidery through digital training platforms.
