Louis-Philippe Demers

Louis-Philippe Demers is a Full Professor of Kinetic Imaging at VCUarts Qatar, combining roles as an artist, designer, researcher, and entrepreneur. He specializes in hybrid transdisciplinary approaches, creating large-scale interactive robotic installations and environments showcased globally in theaters, museums, and festivals. His work spans over 400 machines and 70 artistic productions, collaborating with renowned artists like Robert Lepage and Le Cirque du Soleil.

Education includes postgraduate studies in computer science, media arts, and stage design, with doctoral research in robotics at McGill University. His PhD focused on machines as stage performers, integrating Artificial Intelligence, Performance Theory, and Social Robotics.

Demers has received prestigious awards including multiple Prix Ars Electronica recognitions, the Ruby Innovation Award, and Helpmann Awards. He has held leadership roles such as Director of the Creative Lab at Queensland University of Technology and Associate Chair for Research at NTU’s School of Art, Design and Media.

His research emphasizes interactive lighting systems, stage technologies, and AI-driven performance. He founded Kunst Macchina Production Company, commercializing software for the entertainment industry, and has delivered keynotes globally while curating artistic events and colloquia.
