Lotte Vogel is an Associate Professor in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. She leads the Vogel Group within the Morphogenesis and Differentiation Program, focusing on the interplay between serine proteases matriptase and prostasin, and their inhibitors/ally proteins HAI-1 and HAI-2, with the goal of designing new treatments for cancer patients.
Her primary research interests include:
- Molecular mechanisms of matriptase in cancer development
- Protease inhibitor functions of HAI-1 and HAI-2
- Role of matriptase variants in Autosomal Recessive Congenital Ichthyosis 11 (ARCI11)
- Development of protease-based cancer therapies
Dr. Vogel's research has demonstrated that over-expression of matriptase can single-handedly cause tumors with high efficiency in mouse models, and that this process can be prevented or reversed by simultaneous over-expression of HAI-1 or HAI-2. Her laboratory has established unique assays for detecting inhibition of matriptase activators, positioning it as the only one in the world capable of screening for clinically useful protease inhibitors.
Analysis of her publication record from 2017-2022 reveals a consistent focus on protease regulation mechanisms, with particular emphasis on matriptase and HAI proteins. Her work spans cancer biology, dermatology (ichthyosis research), and gastrointestinal disorders, demonstrating the broad implications of protease function in human health and disease.
