Lotta Vingsle is an Associate Professor at the Department of Science and Mathematics Education at Umeå University. She is also affiliated as a Research Fellow at the Umeå Mathematics Education Research Centre (UMERC). Her research focuses on formative assessment, language integration in mathematics education, and the interplay between mathematical symbols and natural language. She holds a Licentiate degree in Educational Sciences and has conducted extensive studies on teacher competencies in implementing formative assessment strategies.
Key research projects include investigations into process goals in curriculum implementation across Sweden and England, connections between argumentation and mathematical understanding, and the impact of formative assessment professional development programs. Her work emphasizes cognitive and linguistic aspects of mathematics education, particularly in classroom communication and textbook design.
Publications span topics like symbolic representation in textbooks, teacher discourse practices, and ICT-based formative assessment tools. She has contributed to international conferences such as PME and CERME, advancing methodologies for integrating formative assessment into educational systems.
Current affiliations include membership in the Litum research group, focusing on literacy in educational sciences. Her research bridges theoretical frameworks with practical classroom applications, aiming to enhance self-regulated learning and pedagogical effectiveness.
