Prof. Lothar Dieterich is the Heisenberg Professor of Anatomy and Developmental Biology with a focus on the Cardiovascular System at the Mannheim Medical Faculty of Heidelberg University. His research centers on deciphering immune-regulatory functions of lymphatic endothelial cells (LECs) in lymph nodes, particularly their roles in cancer, autoimmunity, and chronic inflammatory diseases. He investigates how LEC subsets heterogenously respond to pathological conditions, aiming to identify therapeutic pathways.
Research highlights include the identification of LEC subsets in mice and humans, their dynamic responses in inflamed skin and melanoma-draining lymph nodes, and their interactions with immune cells like sinusoidal macrophages. His work integrates single-cell transcriptional analysis and clinically relevant animal models to map LEC phenotypic changes in disease contexts.
