Lorna Heaton is a Full Professor in the Department of Communication at the Université de Montréal, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. She is co-director of the LUDTIC Laboratory (Laboratoire des usages et du design des technologies d'information et de communication) and holds research affiliations with CIRST (Centre interuniversitaire de recherche sur la science et la technologie) and LabCMO (Laboratoire sur la communication et le numérique). Her work focuses on socio-technical innovation, particularly the role of digital technologies in collaborative practices across domains like citizen science, biodiversity research, and organizational design.

Grants & Projects: Recent funding includes a 2020-2025 SSHRC grant for 'Constructing participatory performance: the ecologies and architectures of audience engagement' and a 2013-2017 SSHRC project on reconfigurations of scientific work in biodiversity. She has led research on eBird, Tela Botanica, and Pl@ntNet projects, exploring how digital tools mediate scientific collaboration.
Labs & Teams: Co-directs LUDTIC Lab investigating technology use and design. Active in LabCMO's research axes on collaboration, digital literacy, and ethical practices. Collaborates with UQAM's Chair on Digital Technology Uses and Communication Transformations.
Teaching: Courses include Technologies and Collaborative Work (COM-2021), Technology Design and Continuous Change (COM-6960), and Thematic Seminars in Communication (COM-6840). Supervises programs in Communication Science, Environmental Design, and Media Studies.
