Pierre Canisius Kamanzi

Pierre Canisius Kamanzi is a Full Professor in the Department of Administration and Foundations of Education at the Faculty of Education, Université de Montréal. Originally from Rwanda, he came to Quebec with a Francophonie excellence scholarship and pursued doctoral studies after becoming passionate about educational research. He is a member of CIRST (Centre interuniversitaire de recherche sur la science et la technologie) and LIRES (Laboratoire interdisciplinaire de recherche sur l'enseignement supérieur).

His research interests focus on social and school inequalities, educational policies, school pathways in postsecondary education, education and immigration, ethnicity and educational outcomes, and the teaching profession. His work takes a statistical approach to understanding how educational systems can better serve diverse student populations, particularly Black communities and immigrant students in Quebec.

Analysis of his recent publications reveals a strong focus on educational democratization, school market dynamics, and inequality patterns in Quebec's education system. His research consistently addresses how socioeconomic background, immigration status, and ethnicity affect educational pathways and outcomes, with particular attention to postsecondary access and success.

Professor Kamanzi has supervised numerous master's students on topics related to educational inequalities, immigration, and school pathways. His work emphasizes the importance of creating educational systems that provide equitable opportunities for all students regardless of background.
