Lori Sims is a Professor of Piano at the Irving S. Gilmore School of Music, Western Michigan University, where she has been a faculty member since 1997. She holds the John T. Bernhard Professorship (2003) and was named Distinguished Professor in the College of Fine Arts in 2020. A renowned pianist, Sims has performed globally with orchestras like the Israel Philharmonic and NordDeutscheRadio Orchester, and has appeared seven times at the Gilmore International Piano Festival. She specializes in classical and contemporary repertoire, including recordings for Naxos and collaborations with artists like cellist Natalia Khoma and violinist Renata Artman Knific.
Her education includes a Bachelor’s from Peabody Conservatory (Leon Fleisher), Master’s from Yale School of Music (Daniel Pollack, Claude Frank), and an Artist Diploma from Hochschule für Musik, Theater, und Medien Hannover (Arie Vardi). She is an advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion in music education and a certified Professional Development Institute Facilitator.
Sims has performed at Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall, released three CDs on Naxos, and teaches masterclasses internationally. Her artistic and pedagogical contributions are marked by her dedication to both classical traditions and contemporary works.
