Lorenzo Perilli (born 1964) is an Italian classicist and academic at the University of Rome 'Tor Vergata', serving as Director of the interdisciplinary Research Centre in Classics, Mathematics and Philosophy 'Forms of Knowledge in the Ancient World'. He holds a PhD in Philosophy and has held prestigious fellowships including the Alexander von Humboldt-Foundation Grant (2001–2003), the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Award (2007), and fellowships at institutions like the Wellcome Trust Centre (UCL), University of Zurich, and the Berliner Antike Kolleg.
His research focuses on ancient philosophy and science, history of ideas, textual criticism, and humanities computing. His work on ancient empiricism notably influenced Nassim N. Taleb's 2007 book The Black Swan. He has lectured globally and been recognized with awards from Italy and international bodies.
Perilli's academic contributions span collaborative projects with mathematicians and scholars across disciplines, reflecting his interdisciplinary approach to classics and ancient knowledge systems.
