Lorenzo Luigi Columbo

Lorenzo Luigi Columbo is an Associate Professor at the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications (DET) of Politecnico di Torino (PoliTO). He is a member of the PhotoNext Interdepartmental Center for Applied Photonics and affiliated with multiple academic colleges, including the College of Electronic, Telecommunications and Physics Engineering (Member) and College of Biomedical Engineering (Invited Member).

His research focuses on Semiconductor Lasers, Nonlinear Optics, and Photonics, with specific projects on Optical Frequency Combs in hybrid III-V/SiN lasers, Quantum Cascade Lasers, and Multimode VCSELs for data communication. He has co-authored numerous conference and journal publications, emphasizing experimental and theoretical analysis of laser dynamics and noise performance.

The Microwave and Optoelectronics Group (MOG) at DET actively supports his work. He has supervised PhD student Basak Ersoz Yildirim and collaborated on courses like Semiconductor Light Sources for Engineers and Quantum Photonics across multiple engineering disciplines, including biomedical, electronic, and quantum engineering.
