Lorenzo Lones is an Assistant Professor of Teaching in the Division of Cell Biology, Development and Physiology. His research focuses on understanding teaching practices that enhance student self-efficacy, belonging, and persistence in STEM disciplines. He employs mixed methods (quantitative and qualitative approaches) to study educational interventions in STEM education.
Education:

- PhD in Neuroscience, Washington University in St. Louis
Research Themes:

His lab currently investigates how instructor practices influence student perceptions of inclusion and persistence in STEM fields. Prior work includes studies on glial potassium buffering mechanisms and circadian neuroscience, as seen in publications from 2018–2023.
Notable collaborations include postdoctoral research at San Francisco State University’s SEPAL lab under Dr. Kimberly Tanner, focusing on instructor adaptation of active learning strategies.
