Lorena Gallego is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Southern California (USC) and affiliated with the Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences and the Languages, Arts and the Creative Humanities (LAIC) department. She joined USC in 2006 and specializes in teaching Spanish Language and Literature, Spanish for heritage speakers, and conversational Spanish with a focus on film and cinematography. She also serves as the director of LAIC’s International Film Screenings (formerly the Spanish & Portuguese Cineclub).

Her research interests span 19th-century Anglo-Peninsular comparative literature, Gothic Studies, medical humanities, and heritage language education. She is currently working on a doctoral dissertation at Oxford University analyzing the representation of 19th-century medicine in Gothic texts, emphasizing cross-cultural parallels between Peninsular and English literature. Her work integrates interdisciplinary approaches, particularly at the intersection of literature, film, and health sciences.
Gallego has received significant academic recognition, including graduating with honors and Summa Cum Laude from Arizona State University, as well as the Hispanic Merit Scholarship during her undergraduate studies.
