Lorayne Woodfield is a Professor and Reader in Children's Physical Activity at Newman University's Faculty of Arts, Society and Professional Studies. She serves as the University’s PGR Coordinator (Liaison & Student Experience) and holds roles in several research ethics and academic committees. A qualified primary school teacher, her work bridges education and health, focusing on school-based physical activity interventions. Her research emphasizes children’s activity during school breaks, physical education, and sedentary behavior reduction. Collaborations include projects with the University of Strathclyde and Swim England to apply the SHARP Principles to PE and swimming lessons.
Dr. Woodfield’s teaching spans physical activity and health, physical education pedagogy, and research ethics. She has supervised numerous PhDs, including Dr. Emma Powell’s influential SHARP Principles study. Her administrative roles include chairing the Research Ethics Subcommittee and contributing to the Data Protection Task Group. Professional memberships include the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES).
Her recent work includes analyses of physical activity predictors in early childhood and interventions to enhance MVPA in schools. Supervision highlights include projects on environmental influences on youth activity, metabolic risk factors in university students, and faith in early education. Research collaborations span international conferences and peer-reviewed journals, with a focus on practical applications in education and health.
