Elizabeth Plummer is a Senior Lecturer in Sport and Health at Newman University's Faculty of Arts, Society and Professional Studies. She has been at Newman since 2008, serving as course leader for the PGCE PE teaching route. Her career spans teaching, school sports coordination, and international collaboration, including roles at the University of Cape Town and University of Stellenbosch. She holds a BEd Hons in Physical Education, MEd, and FHEA status.
Research focuses on innovative teaching methods, particularly 'opening the box' of pedagogy to foster creativity among trainee teachers. Her projects include the 'Sport Counts' initiative (funded by the British Council) linking sport to math literacy and the 'Each one teach one' program empowering non-specialist PE teachers in South African townships. She has presented at global conferences, including in Malta, Chile, and China.
Publications include textbooks on Life Orientation (South Africa) and hockey coaching manuals. Awards include Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.
Grants include a £64,000 British Council bid (2008). She has managed international projects like 'Play Fair' and 'Tri-Partnerships in International Settings,' emphasizing global educational partnerships.
