Lok Raj Joshi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Population Health at the College of Veterinary Medicine. His research spans viral vector engineering for vaccine and gene therapy, virus evolution, and pathogenesis studies with a focus on zoonotic diseases. He applies next-generation sequencing, bioinformatics, and animal models to investigate viral dynamics and develop diagnostic tools.
- Educational Background
- B.V.Sc & A.H (DVM equivalent), Tribhuvan University (2013)
- MS in Biological Science, South Dakota State University (2017)
- PhD in Biomedical and Biological Sciences, Cornell University (2021)
- Postdoctoral training at the Ragon Institute of MGH MIT and Harvard (2024)
His work on poxvirus and AAV vectors aims to improve vaccine safety and efficacy, particularly for emerging pathogens like alphacoronavirus, influenza A, Senecavirus A, and avian influenza. He also develops monoclonal antibodies and metagenomic assays for disease surveillance.
