As Director of the Center for Virology and Vaccine Research at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) and a member of the Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT, and Harvard, he leads groundbreaking research in vaccine development and viral immunology.
- Education: A.B. in Biochemistry (Harvard College, 1993), Ph.D. in Immunology (Oxford University, 1995), M.D. (Harvard Medical School, 1999)
His research focuses on the immunology and pathogenesis of viral infections, including HIV-1, Zika, SARS-CoV-2, tuberculosis, and influenza. His lab developed vaccine candidates for multiple global pathogens, notably contributing to the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, and explores novel therapeutic strategies for infectious diseases.
Recent work highlights challenges in mucosal immunity with SARS-CoV-2 boosters, neutralization epitopes in rhesus AAVs, and immune correlates for HIV-1 vaccines. His publications span high-impact journals like Cell Rep, Lancet HIV, and Science Translational Medicine.
