Lois Player is a Doctor of Philosophy and Research Fellow affiliated with the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Advanced Automotive Propulsion Systems (AAPS CDT) and the Centre for Climate Adaptation & Environment Research (CAER) at the University of Bath. She serves as Principal Investigator for research projects including the AAPS International Travel Grant, with recent collaborations extending to Germany and significant contributions to the Seventh Carbon Budget advice for the UK Government.
Dr. Player's research spans multiple areas of environmental and climate psychology, with a particular focus on understanding the psychological factors that influence pro-environmental behavior. Her work combines qualitative and quantitative methodologies to examine public responses to climate policies, environmental knowledge assessment, and behavior change interventions. She has developed psychometrically robust instruments like the 19-Item Environmental Knowledge Test (EKT-19) and explored innovative computational approaches to qualitative research through the Deep Computational Text Analyser (DECOTA).
Her recent publications demonstrate methodological innovation and practical application, with research picked up by 4-6 news outlets per major publication and widely shared across social media platforms. She has established strong collaborations with researchers like Lorraine Whitmarsh and conducted applied work with organizations including Cornwall Council to translate academic insights into practical climate solutions.
Dr. Player has received research funding through the AAPS International Travel Grant supporting international collaboration, and has contributed significantly to open science through publicly available datasets on environmental knowledge and low emission zone acceptability. Her work bridges psychological theory with practical climate solutions, making important contributions to understanding how psychological factors influence environmental decision-making and policy acceptance.
