Lois Mulligan is a Professor in the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine at Queen's University. She holds cross-appointments in Pediatrics, Biomedical and Molecular Sciences, and is a Principal Investigator at the Queen's Cancer Research Institute. Her research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of the RET receptor tyrosine kinase in cancer, particularly thyroid, adrenal, and pancreatic tumors. She has expertise in molecular and cellular biology, protein manipulation, and confocal microscopy.
Education includes a PhD in Medical Genetics from Queen's University (1993), post-doctoral training in cancer genetics at the Ludwig Institute (1990), and a Doctorate in Human Genetics (1986). She teaches courses in experimental cancer therapeutics and cancer biology.
Mulligan's research investigates how RET dysregulation contributes to oncogenesis, with a focus on isoform-specific signaling, membrane dynamics, and therapeutic targets. Recent work includes studies on TMEM127 tumor suppression and GFRα ligand interactions. Her lab uses models like 3D spheroids and CRISPR screens to dissect RET pathways.
Affiliations include the Queen's Cancer Research Institute and Endocrine-Related Cancer journal. Her work bridges basic science and translational oncology, emphasizing personalized medicine approaches.
