Catharina Larsson is a Professor at the Department of Oncology-Pathology, Karolinska Institutet. She leads the Medical Genetics research group, focusing on experimental, translational, and clinical studies of endocrine tumors. Her roles include Assistant Chair of the Department of Oncology-Pathology, KI Chairman of the Research & Educational Development Group, and Faculty Board representative.
Education: Medical degree (1985), Dr med sci (1989, KI), Docent (1999, KI), and Professor in Medical Genetics (2001, KI).
Research Interests: Molecular mechanisms of endocrine tumors (thyroid, adrenal, parathyroid), telomerase activation in cancer, genetic predisposition syndromes, and translational oncology. Key areas include TERT promoter mutations, microRNA regulation, and therapeutic targets in Merkel cell carcinoma.
Publications: Recent work emphasizes genetic profiling in adrenal cancer, biomarkers for thyroid tumors, and viral oncogenesis. Themes include tumor genetics, endocrine oncology, and molecular diagnostics.
