Jan Zedenius is a Senior Professor of Surgery with a focus on Endocrine Surgery at Karolinska Institutet's Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery. He leads the Endocrine Surgery research group under Robert Bränström and serves as President of the International Association of Endocrine Surgeons (IAES). His research spans thyroid cancer, parathyroid disorders, and adrenal tumors, with emphasis on molecular diagnostics and prognostic markers.

- Employment: 2017-2024 (Professor/Chief Physician), 2024-2025 (Senior Professor)
- Degree: Associate Professor (Docent) in Surgery, Karolinska Institutet, 1999
His work addresses critical challenges in endocrine tumor differentiation (e.g., thyroid vs. parathyroid nodules, TERT promoter mutations for cancer aggressiveness), clinical management of hyperparathyroidism, and molecular mechanisms in adrenal/paragangliomas. Recent articles highlight collaborations on radiopharmaceutical development and spatial transcriptomics to map tumor progression.
Key article trends: 1) TERT mutations as diagnostic/prognostic tools; 2) DICER1 and DGCR8 in thyroid nodule classification; 3) Ki-67 and thyroglobulin as biomarkers; 4) Nuclear imaging advancements; 5) Multi-institutional clinical studies; 6) Preoperative diagnostic protocols.
Scientific recognition includes leading the IAES and numerous grants from the Swedish Cancer Society. He supervises PhD students and contributes to clinical guidelines for adrenal incidentalomas and parathyroid adenomas.
